DISC?

What is a herniated disc?

Your spine is strong and flexible. It contains 25 bones called vertebrae, and each of these bones is separated by tough, fibrous intervertebral discs. The outside of the disc is tough and fibrous while the inside is full of a jelly-like liquid called nucleus pulposus.

The discs cushion the vertebrae and allow the bones of your spine to move smoothly and free of pain.

As we age, these discs lose their flexibility, making them less able to handle pressure or strain.

Injury to our back or neck can cause the joints to become immobile and inflamed. This increased pressure on the discs reduces the flow of nutrients that the discs need to stay healthy.
